The following message from the Bishop of Croydon was read out at the Churches of Croydon Minster, St George, Waddon and St Andrew Croydon on Sunday 19th November 2017.

As you will know, the vacancy at Croydon Minster has been longer than anticipated as the post has proven harder than expected to fill.   We are sorry for this delay.  However we glad that we are now in a position to move forward.

During the time that the Minster has been vacant, the Vicar of St Andrew, Croydon has also moved to a new post.  This has allowed us to consider the best way forward for ensuring that the Town Centre in Croydon, with all the new developments envisaged, can be properly staffed to ensure the best possible ministry for the Churches and people of the area. As a result of this, the processes are being put in place to explore the possibility of a Team Ministry to be created covering the parishes of the Minster (including St George’s) and St Andrew’s in the Town Centre. This team would be under the leadership of a Team Rector who would be the person appointed to Croydon Minster.  In order for this to happen the Diocesan Bishop will need to restrict the presentation to the living in the next few days and then follow the processes to move  to  suspend the presentation of the living; this means that the person filling the vacancy will initially be appointed as priest-in-charge rather than the Vicar of the parish.  This possible re-organisation is being conducted in order to enhance the Church’s ministry and mission, and not with a view to reducing the number of clergy posts or churches.

As a result of this, further work will need to be undertaken on the Parish Profile, after which the earliest that the post can be re-advertised will be early in the New Year.
